Tesla Model X

基地設於美國加州帕羅奧圖(Palo Alto)的 Tesla,以一部中型行政房車 Model S,敲響了量產電動豪華房跑車的市場,在全球錄得約 145,500 部的高銷量(截至 2016 年 9 月),羨煞不少傳統汽車廠牌。Model S 的成功,鼓勵了 Tesla 加快腳步推出更多車款,即將上市就有已經在各項國際級車展現身,以及接受訂購的電動 SUV – 一部設有鷗翼式車門的潮流之選。
Headquartered in Palo Alto, California, Tesla has recorded impressive luxury electric car sales with its Model S, a mid-size executive saloon. Hitting worldwide sales of approximately 145,500 cars (as of September 2016), Tesla is the envy of even traditional car brands. Model S’s success has encouraged Tesla to introduce more models. Soon to hit the market is the Model X, an electric SUV with gull-wing passenger doors, no doubt another trendsetter.

從發售 Model S 賺來不俗的盈利後,廠方決定加快新車開發計劃,於 2012 年首度展示新車型 Model X,並於 2015 年開始投產,然後陸續交付予全球各地買家。根據網上統計數字顯示,直至 2016 年 9 月,Model X 的交車量已超過 16,000 部,以一間規模絕對稱不上大型的車廠而言,實在是非常理想的成績。

大膽的鷗翼車門

Model X 的底盤源自 Model S,電力驅動源頭在技術上也不算是有重大突破,續航力大約跟高性能版本 Model S 相若,但它比 Model S 更吸引買家的,是其創新的外形設計。一來它是目前在車壇大受歡迎的 SUV 型車款,更重要的是,廠方的設計團隊為它引入了非常搶眼的鷗翼式後車門(Gull-wing Rear Door)。

歐翼式車門並非什麼驚天動地的新發明,早在上世紀 50 年代初,德國奔馳(Mercedes-Benz)車廠已將同樣設計應用在旗下的跑車 300 SL 身上,這種向上升起的開門布局,令兩邊車門升起後,線條有如展翅中的海鷗一樣而得名。

順帶一提,很多人會將鷗翼式車門與蝴蝶式車門(Butterfly Door)混淆,但只要細心留意,便會發現前者的門鉸被置放於車頂,而後者則往往將門鉸放在車門框內側前方位置,只是車門不是像傳統式車門般拉開,而是向上揚起而已。

On a full charge, it has a range of at least 300km (depending on the model) and can accelerate from zero to 100kph in under 3 seconds. Based on the enthusiastic response to the Model S, Tesla decided to accelerate its development of the Model X in 2012, with production commencing in 2015. As of September 2016, 16,000 Model Xs have been delivered. Model X is built from the Model S chassis and shares the power source, but Model X’s gull-wing passenger doors are definitely more of a head-turner than the Model S.

節省空間的設計

很多人以為,鷗翼式車門只是用來唬人的設計,但事情並非如此。

沒錯,配備鷗翼式車門的多是價值不菲的跑車,與別不同的車門開關方式的確能夠收搶鏡之效,但原來從實用角度去衡量,鷗翼式車門的開啟方式,反而更適用於泊車位置極為狹窄的停車場,因為它是向上升起而非橫向拉開,故此泊車時就毋需預留太多車身兩側的空間了。

鷗翼式車門另一好處,就是由於門框的開口相對闊大,故此進出車廂時會覺得更為方便。

當然,在停泊好配置鷗翼式車門的車款後,要更加留意所處場所的高度是否足夠讓車門升起。但其實在歐美地區,鮮有樓底空間不足的停車場,這也解釋了為何到目前為止,大部分提供此類車門的車款都是來自歐美車廠。

而為了令車內人進出車廂時,不會因沒留意天花高度而令車門撞擊車身上方的障礙物,Tesla Model X 便加裝可作兩段開關的門鉸(廠方稱此設計為 Falcon-wing Door),這樣在樓底高度不足的停車場,車門毋須盡開便可順利讓車內人上落車。同時也會加裝高度感應器,以提醒車內人在開啟車門時,要留心車頂上方的障礙物,甚至在有需要時限制車門的開啟角度。

鷗翼能成主流?

鷗翼式車門雖然有上述這些好處,並帶給大家一種非凡的型格感覺,卻在市場上較難成為主流。因為在設計及落實投產新車時,成本控制仍是主導因素,故此大部分量產車最終仍是會用回傳統的拉開式車門。

A lot of people think that gull-wing doors are just more flashy and pricey, but it’s actually a very practical feature that comes in handy in very narrow parking spaces. The design allows for a wider opening granting easier access into and out of the car and prevents unnecessary dings to neighboring cars. But because the doors open up, that means there needs to be enough overhead clearance in car parks. Tesla did one better with the design and added an extra hinge to the doors, turning them into falcon-wing doors, which essentially lowers the height clearance needed. Just in case, there’s also a height sensor. Despite the conveniences, gull-wing doors have been slow to go mainstream, mainly due to productions costs. Will Tesla’s Model X set another new trend?
