Ferrari Bible

Reading is particularly rewarding when it is about something you love. With USD 30,000 (around HKD 230,000) to spare, would you buy a car or a Bible of Ferrari?

As a super fan of cars and a journalist, magazines (especially car magazines) occupy plenty of space in my heart as well as my flat. My passion for cars started early. Before I became a car journalist and reached the legal age to obtain a driving licence, I was already flipping local and international car magazines. I read the test reports for new cars and learnt about the trends and characteristics of different parts. Sometimes, I also imagined that I was Roger Moore, speeding across London in his Aston Martin DB5, or Steve McQueen overtaking cars after cars in a Ford Mustang. Decades have since passed, my imaginations did not come true, but the knowledge I obtained from the magazines stays.

Because of them, I became familiar with jargon such as horsepower, torque, turbocharger and MacPherson strut very early on. Car magazines provide not only entertainment, but are also my career beacon. My first car after I obtained my driving licence at 18 years old was a grey coloured Peugeot 206 convertible. I picked it according to recommendations in the car magazines.

All I am saying is, motor aficionados’ love for cars always extend to car magazines. If you love cars, car magazines, supercars and Ferrari, The Official Ferrari Opus is a must-have item. Edited by acclaimed Italian car journalist Pino Allievi, the book bears the signatures of Ferrari chairman John Elkann, Enzo’s son Piero Ferrari, and the recently deceased company boss Sergio Marchionne on its first page. The content includes exclusive information obtained from Ferrari, as well as private collections from around the world. Over 100 pictures and documents of key Ferrari personalities tell the brand’s success story of 70 years. The legend of Ferrari and its lasting impact on the motor industry are also described. The case, inspired by the V12 engine, is just extravagant as the book, with a stand resembling the exhaust pipes integrated into it.

The edition with Elkann’s autograph costs USD 30,000 (around HKD 230,000), while the regular edition limited to 1,697 copies worldwide is priced “only” at USD 6,000 (around HKD 47,000). The latter bears only the signature of Piero Ferrari and does not come with other parts. However, the content is the same. Is it worth it? Of course. Money is never a concern for Ferrari aficionados.
